YMCA of the Rockies Home

The YMCA of the Rockies, Snow Mountain Ranch is located 80 miles northwest of Denver and only 12 miles from the town of Winter Park. Snow Mountain Ranch extends over 5,000 acres and is 8,750 ft. above sea level. The Ranch has cabins, lodges, and campground accommodations for up to 2,100 guests. It is also a major Nordic ski center with over 100 kilometers of groomed trails.

APPLICATION PROCESS

A seasonal job application must be completed and mailed or faxed to the Human Resources Office. If you received reference forms with the application materials, the forms should be given to three individuals who have known you in a professional or supervisory capacity. Reference forms should be mailed or faxed directly to the Human Resources Office by the person completing the form. References are necessary for both volunteers and paid employees. The Human Resources Office will call references in the event we do not receive completed reference forms. You will be contacted through the mail with a decision. Please call if you have a question about the status of your application or the positions currently available.

EMPLOYMENT DATES

Employment for the fall and winter can begin as early as September. Applicants who can work through the ski season until mid-April are preferred. Short term employment is also available during December, February, and March. Most summer staff arrive in May or June and work to the end of August or into September.

EMPLOYEE PROGRAMS

At Snow Mountain Ranch we understand that our staff come to Colorado and the Rocky Mountains not only to work, but also to experience everything Colorado has to offer. Activities available to our guests are also available to our staff at little or no charge. These include:

Our full-time Chaplain provides extensive religious and spiritual programs, such as Fellowship, Worship Service, and Video nights.

Snow Mountain Ranch also employs staff activities coordinators to provide activities exclusively for our staff on their time off. In the past these activities have included:

SKI BENEFITS

Extensive downhill and cross country ski benefits are available to seasonal employees during the ski season. Benefits normally include skiing at Winter Park Resort, Silver Creek Ski Area, and Snow Mountain Ranch Nordic Center.

Winter Park Resort:
Experience Colorado’s Favorite Ski Resort including bumps and snow boarding!

Silver Creek Resort:
Only a couple hours to ski today? The slopes are only ten minutes from Snow Mountain Ranch!

Berthoud Pass Ski Area
For the adventurous! Experience ungroomed trails on the Continental Divide.

Snow Mountain Ranch Nordic Center:
Access to over 60 miles of groomed trails for all ability levels. In addition, there is a lighted loop for night skiing.

COMPENSATION

Most staff will work a five day work week, eight hours per day. The seasonal staff gross pay rate is $145 per week plus room and board, based on forty hours a week. Overtime will be paid after forty hours of work in one work week. If less than forty hours are worked in a work week, the weekly rates will be prorated. Selected positions that require special certifications or that have additional supervisory requirements may be eligible for additional compensation. 

Employees who successfully complete their employment agreements will receive a share of the Appreciation Fund (gratuity pool). 

A bonus of $35 per week worked from December 25, 1999 to April 14, 2000 will be paid to those employees who successfully complete their employment agreements. The maximum bonus is $560, before tax deductions. (The bonus for the following winter begins December 23, 2000 for a 16 week period.) Employees must work through the last date on their Agreement to be eligible for their bonus. Bonuses are normally paid on the paycheck following an employee’s departure.

Snow Mountain Ranch manages a Hotel & Resort Operations Training Program. Employees may participate in courses developed by the American Hotel / Motel Association while obtaining practical work experience . Contact the Human Resources Office for further information.

MEALS, HOUSING & CAMPSITES

Buffet style meals are provided three times a day, seven days a week at designated times in the cafeteria. 

Most staff live in the YMCA residence halls. Rooms are singles, doubles, or triples. Residents share in the cleaning of the public areas in the residence halls. Central bathroom facilities are located in each hall. A limited number of private rooms are available for married couples. Married couples who wish to work or volunteer at Snow Mountain Ranch must apply separately and must both work or volunteer. The residence halls do not accommodate children. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age to live on YMCA property. A coin operated laundry is available for guests and staff. 

Full hookup campsites (water, electricity, sewer) are available for staff members or volunteers who have their own camper or RV. The campground is open to staff from approximately May 20th

Visit Rocky Mountain National Park only 25 minutes from Snow Mountain Ranch. The Park has more than 355 miles of trails for hikers of all abilities. Enjoy crosscountry skiing on many of these trails during the winter months.

POLICIES

THE FOLLOWING LIST REPRESENTS SOME OF THE POLICIES OF THE YMCA OF THE ROCKIES AND IS NOT ALL INCLUSIVE. Applicants who are offered a job will receive a copy of the Seasonal Staff Handbook which will have more details of policies and procedures. Each employee and volunteer is expected to abide by ALL policies and conduct themselves in a manner that is in keeping with the standards of the YMCA of the Rockies.

bulletYMCA of the Rockies has a Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy 
bulletUse, possession, or sale of ANY illegal or non-medically prescribed, controlled drug is grounds for immediate termination of employment. 
bulletSeasonal employees are not permitted to consume nor have alcoholic beverages in their possession on YMCA properties. ALL employees present during a policy violation involving drugs or alcohol will be in considered in violation. Alcoholic beverage containers, full or empty, are not permitted on YMCA property for seasonal staff. Any incident of public intoxication is cause for immediate dismissal. 
bulletQuiet hours must be observed in staff housing and lounges from 11:00 p.m. through 7:00 am, seven days a week. 
bulletSmoking is prohibited in all buildings at Snow Mountain Ranch, including staff housing. 
bulletIntervisitation in the residence halls by members of the opposite sex is permitted between 9:00 am and 11:00 p.m. 
bulletPets are not allowed in YMCA employee housing. 
bulletAll employees must be well groomed according to management standards. Men are not permitted to have long hair (below the collar). Neatly trimmed mustaches are acceptable, however, beards are not allowed. 
bulletPony tails on men and excessive body piercing for men/women will not be allowed in some positions.
